Podcast Hosting Platforms Ranked by Limits and Price

Podcast hosting platforms ranked on one scorecard: monthly price, upload-hour and storage limits, free-plan caps, analytics, ad tools and listed export.

By Updated Data checked through 4 min read

For podcast hosting, pigeon-pod scores highest at 86 out of 100, ahead of ZenMic. The deciding criterion is verified features: 2 of 10 tracked features verified: one-click distribution to podcast apps, private podcasts, so read the limits and the monthly price before you treat the rank as a recommendation.

How we picked

Hosting looks cheap until a limit bites. A plan that is fine for a monthly show can stop working when you publish twice a week, add video or bring on a co-host, so the scorecard weights the monthly price together with the limits that decide how long a plan lasts. It also rewards a free plan with a stated cap and a published way to move your feed. Details are on the methodology page.

Every one of the 24 podcast hosting platforms we looked at is scored by the same 8 criteria (scorecard version 2), each from the vendor's own pricing page, docs or changelog. 22 had enough verified data to be ranked. A criterion without verified data is left out and the remaining weights are re-normalised; under 60% of the weight covered means the tool is not ranked.

Scorecard criteria, weights and what each measures
CriterionWeightTypeWhat we measure and how
Entry price25%CorePrice per month of the cheapest paid plan, against the prices of other podcast hosting platforms on the same billing basis (monthly-billed prices against monthly, annual-billed against annual).Formula: Log scale. Billed monthly: $7/month or less = 100, $29 or more = 0. Only billed annually: $6.38/month or less = 100, $25.54 or more = 0. Only free plans = 100. Usage-priced and one-time plans are not scored.
Free plan or trial15%CoreWhether you can use the tool before paying: a free plan, or failing that a free trial, as shown on the vendor's pricing page.Formula: Free plan = 100. No free plan but a free trial = 60. The pricing page lists plans but shows neither = 0. No plans read = not scored.
Pricing transparency10%CoreHow much of the pricing is public: the share of plans with a published price ("contact sales" counts against), and whether there are at least 3 published tiers.Formula: 80 x (plans with a public price / plans listed) + 20 x (public plans, up to 3) / 3. No plans read = not scored.
Verified features15%CoreHow many of the 10 features we track for this category the vendor's own pages verifiably show (one-click distribution to podcast apps, listener analytics, iab-certified analytics, monetisation (ads or listener support), dynamic ad insertion, transcripts, video podcasts, private podcasts, podcast website, team access). This counts verified features only: a tool that documents less scores lower here, and only here.Formula: Linear: verified features / 5 (half the tracked list) x 100, capped at 100. No tracked feature verified = not scored.
API, integrations and export10%CoreWhether a public API exists, how many integrations the vendor states, and whether the vendor documents a way to export your data.Formula: Average of the parts with data: public API yes = 100, no = 0; integrations on a log scale (30 or more = 100); a documented data export = 100. None verified = not scored.
Shows per plan10%CategoryPodcasts included on the cheapest paid plan that states a limit.Formula: Log scale: 10 or more (or unlimited) = 100. No stated limit = not scored.
Upload allowance10%CategoryUpload hours per month included on the cheapest paid plan that states a limit.Formula: Linear scale: 10 or more (or unlimited) = 100. No stated limit = not scored.
Cost per user (team of 3)5%CategoryMonthly price per user for a team of 3, on the cheapest paid plan that is priced per seat or states room for at least 3 users.Formula: Log scale: $6.16 per user or less = 100, $24.65 or more = 0. Plans that do not state a user limit are not used. No such plan = not scored.

Podcast hosting platforms compared

The table is computed from the scorecard, and every price cell links to the vendor's pricing page. Read it from the left: rank and score first, then coverage, which tells you how much of the scorecard had verified data behind it. A high score on thin coverage is a lead to check, not a verdict.

Each value links the vendor page it was read from (hover for the check date). Coverage is the share of the scorecard's weight with verified data, and "N of M criteria" how many criteria the score is based on; a tool is ranked at 60% or more.

Score is 0 to 100 on the category scorecard; coverage is the share of scorecard weight with verified data. Prices are list prices in US dollars from each vendor's pricing page; the Checked column is the newest date any fact of that tool was verified. 2 listed without a score because under 60% of the weight has verified data. How the score works: methodology.

Two entries near the top are not conventional hosts, and the rank does not hide that. pigeon-pod turns YouTube channels into private podcast feeds and lists 1 storage gb on its free plan. ZenMic is an AI audio studio that also publishes feeds. If you record your own episodes and want a public show in the directories, the hosts below are the ones to compare. RedCircle is the one to look at if you want to start free and keep growing without a show cap. The free plan allows 1 shows, and the first paid plan removes the show limit. The trade-off is that its higher tiers climb steeply, so check which features you actually use before moving up.

Buzzsprout is a common first host because its free plan is easy to understand, but that plan is limited by upload hours, not by storage, and it is small. A show that publishes weekly can run out of hours quickly, so the first paid plan is where most shows end up.

Libsyn prices by monthly upload hours, so the cost follows how much audio you publish, not how many shows or users you have. That suits a weekly show with long episodes and punishes a daily one, because the top tier is a large jump from the middle tier.

Transistor charges a flat monthly fee and does not meter shows or users, which is useful for an agency or a network that would otherwise pay per show. For a single hobby show it costs more than most of the others, and it has no free plan.

Podbean ties the monthly price to upload hours and lists unlimited storage, so the number to watch is how much audio you add each month. Annual billing lowers the entry price, which is worth doing only if you expect to keep the show for the year.

Captivate is the only host in this group whose entry plan is capped by downloads, not hours, which suits a show with a modest audience and a lot of episodes. A show that grows past the cap has to move up a tier, so estimate your monthly downloads before you choose.

Who should not pick it

  • A show that publishes often should be careful with Libsyn: its first plan allows 3 upload hours per month.
  • Anyone who needs a free plan should skip Fireside and Transistor: their free plans are listed as No and No.
  • A new show that may release several episodes at once should check Buzzsprout: its free plan is limited to 2 upload hours per month.
  • A growing show should look hard at Captivate: its entry plan caps downloads at 30000 per month.
  • A solo creator with one show should compare Transistor against others, since its entry price is $19 per month.

What we did not test

We did not upload an episode, move a feed or read an analytics dashboard on any of these hosts. The scores come from vendor pricing and feature pages, so they cannot tell you how reliable a host is, how accurate its download counts are, how quickly support answers or how smooth a migration is. Check the vendor's export and redirect guidance before you commit a show. For the full list of what we leave out, see what we did not test.

Frequently asked questions

How much does podcast hosting cost per month?

It depends on the limits you need. Fireside starts at $9 per month and Libsyn at $12 per month, while Transistor starts at $19 per month. Prices were read from each vendor's pricing page on Oct 14, 2026.

Can I host a podcast for free?

Some hosts list a free plan with a cap. Buzzsprout lists a free plan with 2 upload hours per month, and RedCircle lists one with 1 shows. Free plans differ in what they cap, so compare the limit before you start.

What is an upload-hour limit?

It caps how much audio you can add to your account in a billing month, rather than how much you store. Libsyn lists 3 upload hours per month on its $12 per month plan.

Can I move my podcast to another host later?

Moving a show means pointing your feed at the new host, and the export route differs by vendor. Our catalogue lists an export statement for Fireside: Episode totals and monthly or yearly download history as CSV. For any other host, read its migration page before you commit.

Which of the podcast hosting platforms ranks first on SaaSHunter?

pigeon-pod has the highest score, 86 out of 100, among the 22 podcast hosting platforms with enough verified data to be ranked. Its facts were last checked Oct 14, 2026. Scores are computed from the published scorecard and change when the underlying facts change.

Which podcast hosting platforms have a free plan?

13 of the 22 ranked podcast hosting platforms list a free plan: pigeon-pod, ZenMic, Podomatic, RSS.com, RedCircle, Buzzsprout, Podfan, Soundtrap, Spreaker, Acast, Podbean, Riverside, Squadcast. What the free plan allows differs, so check the limits column before choosing.

What is the lowest starting price among podcast hosting platforms?

Among the ranked podcast hosting platforms, pigeon-pod has the lowest paid starting price at $6.90 per month. Tools charge per seat, per connected account or per workspace, so the units differ and the lowest sticker price is not always the lowest bill for your setup.

How are the podcast hosting platforms scored?

Each tool is scored from 0 to 100 on 8 weighted criteria taken from the same scorecard for every tool: entry price, free plan or trial, pricing transparency, verified features, api, integrations and export, shows per plan, upload allowance, cost per user (team of 3). Criteria without verified data are left out and the weights re-normalised; a tool with under 60% of the weight covered is listed as not ranked.
