Social Media Analytics Report Tools Compared

Social media analytics report tools scored on one scorecard: report exports, white-label reports, free plans, entry prices and platform coverage side by side.

By Updated Data checked through 5 min read

For a social media analytics report, Clksy ranks first on our scorecard with 100 out of 100, level with MyFreshTools at 100. The score is built on price, limits and platforms, so it does not tell you whether a tool exports branded reports; the tool notes below do.

What a report tool has to do

A social media analytics report answers one question for one reader: what happened on our accounts, and what do we do next. For a business owner that is a one-page summary. For a marketing manager it is a monthly deck with trends by network. For an agency it is a branded document sent to a client, often on a schedule, with the agency logo and not the vendor's.

That gives you four things to check before price. Does the tool export the report, and in what format? Can you white-label it? Does it pull in every network you post on? And can you get the underlying data out, in case you outgrow the tool? The tool notes below cite the vendor's own statement for each, and say plainly where the catalogue has none.

Also check the unit of the price. Some entry plans are per month for a flat bundle, some are per seat, and the number of connected accounts varies. For the wider question of which tool to run daily publishing in, see our guide to social media management tools.

How we picked

Reporting tools charge by account, seat or client, so the criteria weight platform coverage, the cost per connected account and the cost per user for a small team, on top of the criteria every category shares: real cost, limits, getting your data out, lock-in and API. See how we score for the formulas. A criterion with no verified data is left out, not guessed.

Every one of the 49 social media analytics tools we looked at is scored by the same 8 criteria (scorecard version 1), each from the vendor's own pricing page, docs or changelog. 38 had enough verified data to be ranked. A criterion without verified data is left out and the remaining weights are re-normalised; under 60% of the weight covered means the tool is not ranked.

Scorecard criteria, weights and what each measures
CriterionWeightTypeWhat we measure and how
Entry price25%CorePrice per month of the cheapest paid plan, against the prices of other social media analytics tools on the same billing basis (monthly-billed prices against monthly, annual-billed against annual).Formula: Log scale. Billed monthly: $9/month or less = 100, $99 or more = 0. Only billed annually: $7.50/month or less = 100, $199 or more = 0. Only free plans = 100. Usage-priced and one-time plans are not scored.
Free plan or trial15%CoreWhether you can use the tool before paying: a free plan, or failing that a free trial, as shown on the vendor's pricing page.Formula: Free plan = 100. No free plan but a free trial = 60. The pricing page lists plans but shows neither = 0. No plans read = not scored.
Pricing transparency10%CoreHow much of the pricing is public: the share of plans with a published price ("contact sales" counts against), and whether there are at least 3 published tiers.Formula: 80 x (plans with a public price / plans listed) + 20 x (public plans, up to 3) / 3. No plans read = not scored.
Verified features15%CoreHow many of the 4 features we track for this category the vendor's own pages verifiably show (analytics, team access, templates, ai assistant). This counts verified features only: a tool that documents less scores lower here, and only here.Formula: Linear: verified features / 2 (half the tracked list) x 100, capped at 100. No tracked feature verified = not scored.
API, integrations and export10%CoreWhether a public API exists, how many integrations the vendor states, and whether the vendor documents a way to export your data.Formula: Average of the parts with data: public API yes = 100, no = 0; integrations on a log scale (100 or more = 100); a documented data export = 100. None verified = not scored.
Platform coverage10%CategoryHow many of the 15 social platforms we track the vendor says the tool supports.Formula: Linear: platforms / 10 x 100, capped at 100. No verified platform list = not scored.
Cost per connected account10%CategoryMonthly price per connected account on the cheapest paid plan that allows at least 3 social accounts.Formula: Log scale: $3 per account or less = 100, $40 or more = 0. Plans that do not state an account limit are not used.
Cost per user (team of 3)5%CategoryMonthly price per user for a team of 3, on the cheapest paid plan that is priced per seat or states room for at least 3 users.Formula: Log scale: $6.67 per user or less = 100, $116 or more = 0. Plans that do not state a user limit are not used. No such plan = not scored.

The ranking

The order is computed from verified vendor data. Some top-scoring entries are not reporting platforms, so use the table to shortlist on price and platforms, then read the report features in the notes. The social analytics category lists every tool.

Each value links the vendor page it was read from (hover for the check date). Coverage is the share of the scorecard's weight with verified data, and "N of M criteria" how many criteria the score is based on; a tool is ranked at 60% or more.

Score is 0 to 100 on the category scorecard; coverage is the share of scorecard weight with verified data. Prices are list prices in US dollars from each vendor's pricing page; the Checked column is the newest date any fact of that tool was verified. 11 listed without a score because under 60% of the weight has verified data. AgencyAnalytics is a reporting and dashboard platform for marketing agencies that pulls client data from many marketing platforms into white-labeled client reports. It is not a social media tool; social is one data source among many, which suits an agency that reports on search, ads and social in one document. The catalogue lists 85 integrations.

The Core plan is listed at $20 per month with unlimited users. How many clients or data sources that covers is not in our data, so the real price depends on your client count.

Databox connects data sources into dashboards and reports and adds an AI analyst for questions on the data. It is the fit for a team that wants social numbers next to sales or web numbers in one dashboard, with 130 integrations listed.

The meter is credits, not accounts. The free plan lists 1 user, 50 credits per month, the Analyst plan costs $71 per month with 150 credits per month, and Team is $199 per month. The catalogue does not say what a credit buys, so test the meter with your real set-up.

TrackMedia is a product of the team behind this site, and it is scored on the same scorecard as every other tool here. It posts one draft to many networks and includes analytics and link tracking. It lists 13 platforms, the longest list in this guide, and a free plan with 15 scheduled posts per month, 1 user, 1 workspace, 1 storage gb.

Its analytics are a feature of a publishing tool, not a reporting product. No report export or white-label reporting is verified for it, so an agency that sends branded client reports should look elsewhere.

Who should not pick it

  • Agencies that send branded reports should not pick TrackMedia: its listed analytics features do not include white-label reports, while SocialPilot lists them as Yes.
  • Solo creators on a tight budget should not pick Agorapulse: it starts at $99 per seat per month with no free plan (No).
  • Teams that only report on social should not pick AgencyAnalytics or Databox: both connect many data sources, with 85 and 130 integrations listed.
  • Anyone who needs a free plan with scheduled reporting should not assume SocialPilot fits: its free plan is listed as No.
  • Teams that report across many accounts on a small budget should check NapoleonCat before committing: the entry plan is $79 per month for 5 social accounts.

What we did not test

We did not generate a report in any of these tools. The data comes from vendor pricing and feature pages and is scored by code, so it shows what a vendor publishes and what it costs, not how accurate the numbers are, how good the report layout looks, how reliably scheduled reports arrive or how helpful support is. A tool can list a feature and still do it badly, so build one real report on a free plan or trial before you commit. For the full list of what we leave out, see what we leave out.

– = not published by the vendor, or not verified yet.
